What does Super Nanny's appeal to society say about their values?

Super Nanny is one of my favorite reality television shows to watch. I am going to be honest and say I love this show because I am a mother of four young children. At times I am overwhelmed by their energy for life, their constant battles between their siblings and of course the unrelenting testing of the wills. Sometimes as a stay at home mom, I feel alone or as if I am doing something wrong in the child-rearing department. I enjoy watching Super Nanny, because this show makes me feel so much better. The families they choose to be on this program are over the top. The kids are frightful, they hit their parents and siblings, they scream profanities, they destroy their homes, defy their parents orders, and as a watcher you feel sorry for their parents and wonder how is Jo Frost going to help this family. I am also thanking God, that though the kids can be trying they are nothing compared to the children on this show.

I believe this show represents society's values as one that loves their children, but they want to find new innovative ideas to discipline their children and to make the household a more peaceful, fun, and loving environment. Many things have changed over the years, but the one element which has never changed is the idea of raising children the best way we can so they can be productive and well adjusted adults. We want the best for our children, but sometimes we just don't know how to go about doing this. By bringing in an "expert" to teach us ways to create a more peaceful and tolerant atmosphere and how to enjoy our children and get them to behave is a blessing to most parents. It is also interesting to see Jo transform these failing families into the type of family we strive to create within our homes.
